The SHM Foundation have a long standing relationship with the Barbican. We have supported and collaborated on a range of projects within the Creative Learning Programme which works to inspire, influence and create opportunities within the arts for people of all ages and backgrounds across East London.
In 2018, the programme included an audio described performance and captioned performance of the world premiere of Obsession, a stage adaptation of Luchino Visconti’s film Obsession, as well as the running of the Barbican Box, a flagship schools programme all over East London which support students and teachers to create original theatre, music or visual arts.
In addition, as part of the Barbican’s International Associates Programme, 20 young musicians from the Jazz at Lincoln Center Youth Orchestra performed in 6 different schools across East London, delivering a series of workshops and masterclasses to young people between primary and secondary school age. The programme this year has reached 1,220 pupils and teachers across the youth orchestra residency, helping to raise awareness of jazz music, introducing high quality music making to students in schools performed by their peers and linking students to the Barbican music programme.
